After an Auto Accident - Do’s and Don’ts

Do:

  • Seek immediate medical attention
  • Contact the police or highway patrol, if possible
  • Request the other drivers involved receive full medical check-ups
  • Try to take photographs of the injuries and accident site for your records
  • Get pertinent documentation, such as insurance information, from the involved drivers and passengers
  • Get names and addresses of any witnesses to the accident

Don’t:

  • Admit fault; even if you aren’t sure
  • Sign any statements for an insurance claims adjuster
  • Make any comments about the extent of your injury that might be used against you in court
  • Refuse medical attention; just because you don’t have any extreme pain, problems related to the accident could surface later on
  • Accept any checks at the scene of the accident
